Camping is such a great summer tradition for families. Heading out into the wilderness with your kids is a great way to unplug and really enjoy each other’s company during summer break.

And there really is no better place to go camping with the family than Oregon.

With amazing views all around and almost perfect weather all summer long, your family is sure to have a blast on a camping trip in Oregon.

If you’re looking for a great place to stay during your camping trip this year, check out one of these five awesome family friendly campsites in Oregon.

    Camp Dakota

This amazing adventure site located an hour outside Portland is an amazing option for a family trip.

One of my good friends took her son here a couple of years ago and her family had a blast!

The campsite has a variety of lodging options for families, from primitive tent sites to covered camping options, like teepees and yurts.

And with a variety of amenities, including hot showers and catered meals, your family is sure to feel right at home at Camp Dakota.

But what really makes this family-friendly campsite stand out is its activities.

Adventurous families will love the zip lines, high ropes challenge, paintball course, and climbing wall. And kids of all ages will have a blast panning for gold and treasure hunting on the campsite.

The campground even has activities to bring your family together through its team building programs!

    Fort Stevens State Park

    Fort Stevens

This amazing Oregon campsite has something for everyone.

Water lovers can enjoy beach access, along with freshwater lake swimming, fishing, and canoeing. And outdoor enthusiasts can tackle the six miles of hiking trails or nine miles of bike trails throughout the 4,200-acre park.

But what really makes this Oregon campsite unique is its connections to local history. Fort Stevens was once the area’s primary military defense installation and was in service for more than 80 years.

The fort was active during major military events, including the Civil War and World War II. And in addition to the fort, this state park is also home to a historic shipwreck your family can explore.

Fort Stevens is also home to a variety of camping options.

For families that enjoy roughing it on their camping trips, the park has six tent sites with no electricity and more than 300 sites with electrical outlets.

And for families who love a little bit of comfort during their camping stays, Fort Stevens also has rustic yurts and deluxe cabins available for rent.

    Emigrant Lake

    Emigrant Lake

Featuring more than 1,400 acres of beautiful land, Emigrant Lake has so much to offer Oregon families.

The 12 miles of lake frontage is perfect for swimming, fishing, and boating. And the campsites have a lot to offer, too.

The RV park is open year round and features water and electrical hook-ups.

Tent camping is also available at the site and includes a fire ring and picnic table at each site.

And while you’re enjoying relaxing in the great outdoors, your kids will love the fun activities that are catered toward them.

The campground features a great playground for the kids to enjoy, along with a 280-foot twin flume waterslide!

    Mazama Village Campground

    Crater Lake in Oregon

Located just seven miles from the rim of beautiful Crater Lake, Mazama Village Campground is another great option for families.

The campground is nestled in a lovely forest setting and each site includes a picnic table, fire ring and bear-resistant food locker. And the campground is packed with family-friendly amenities, including a general store and restaurant.

During your stay at Mazama Village, you can enjoy all the amazing activities available at Crater Lake – the deepest lake in the country.

With so many ways to take in the lake, from boat rides on the water to hiking in the surrounding forests, your family will be busy enjoying nature throughout your camping trip.

Whalers Rest RV & Camping Resort

We spent a lot of time RV’ing here as a kid.

Beach camping is a great way to spend time outdoors this summer. And there’s no better family-friendly place for beach camping in Oregon than Whalers Rest.

The resort has a variety of lodging options to fit every family’s needs.

The cabins and cottages feature all the comforts of home and the year-round RV park and tent sites are located just 150 yards from the ocean.

And a stay at this resort also comes with a variety of resort amenities!

The kids can enjoy mini golf, a playground, basketball courts, and indoor and outdoor pools. And the adults will love the laundry facilities, hot tub, library, and business center.

The resort also has a variety of family-friendly activities available to guests, including a children’s program, DVD rentals, arts and crafts, live entertainment, and a church service each Sunday morning.

Whaler’s Rest is also centrally located, making it a great place for a camping vacation.

The Chinook Winds Casino is nearby for some adults-only fun, and the whole family can enjoy a trip to the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum.

Oregon has so many wonderful places to bring your kids when camping that it’s hard coming up with the best kid’s campsites in Oregon.  Where is your favorite place to camp?
